Time to support small businesses

Amber Valley shoppers are being encouraged to support local retailers on one of their most important days of the year – Small Business Saturday on 5 December.

Now in its eighth year, Small Business Saturday is the UK's most successful small business campaign, which last year saw an estimated £800m spent with small businesses across the UK, during the day.

Small Business Saturday is a non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local' and support small businesses in their communities and encourage us to appreciate our independent businesses.

On Small Business Saturday, customers across the UK show their support for all types of small businesses, online and in stores. Many small businesses take part in the day by showcasing their products, highlighting their tailored service and rewarding local shoppers for their loyalty. This year safe shopping messages will also form a key part of the event.

Each Amber Valley town has something unique to offer and shoppers will often find that they are able to find the perfect gift in their local area. The independent stores know their customers and go the extra mile to seek out the stock which they know will appeal to them. By supporting local small businesses, shoppers contribute to their revival.

Commented Amber Valley Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Community Safety, Councillor Ben Bellamy, "This year, more than ever, it’s important for local shoppers to show their support for the retailers on their doorsteps. Our town centres have endured a very difficult year and Small Business Saturday is the perfect time for them to begin re-building after lockdown.

"This is an excellent initiative to help revive a crucial part of our communities and I would encourage everyone to think about shopping local, particularly on 5 December."
