Appeal to support local retailers

As the country moves back towards normality and the 'road map' to re-opening the high street moves forward, Amber Valley residents are reminder to continue to stay safe, stay home and shop essential-only right now.

Town centre messaging has been created to remind residents to shop safely and Shop Local, along with radio and press advertising, as part of a campaign part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Shoppers are asked to 'Shop Safely, Shop Local' and respect social distancing at all times. They are also being assured that the market towns of Amber Valley and their shops and businesses have put in place the measures to keep shoppers safe. Currently only essential shops are open, but the re-opening of other retail is planned for April.

Locals are being encouraged to think local first and use businesses and services in the local community in favour of travelling to shop, or turning to online retail giants. There are also reminders to shop responsibly by following all hygiene and physical distancing government guidelines and remaining vigilant at all times.

Commented Amber Valley Borough Council’s portfolio holder for regeneration and community safety, Councillor Ben Bellamy: "Revitalising the economy in our market towns, and supporting the high street’s recovery from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is something we can all contribute to by choosing to shop locally, shop safely and only shop for essentials during lockdown.

"If we want vibrant high streets, with greengrocers, butchers, quality clothes and much more – then we all need to make a conscious effort to support them. We would also urge anyone looking for non-essential items to check online to see if any of their local shops offer an online service, before turning to the online giants, as many local retailers offer a click and collect or reserve and collect service."

The wider retail community is provisionally scheduled be open in the spring, followed by the hospitality sector to allow you to enjoy the towns centres to the full. For further information and key dates go to
