Button is Pressed on Free 1 Hour Parking in Heanor

Amber Valley Borough Council has launched an initiative to provide an hour’s free parking in four of Heanor’s town centre car parks, to encourage more residents and visitors into the town and support local traders and businesses.

A recent consultation exercise by the Council, identified that some shoppers were opting to visit nearby towns that offer a period of free parking, rather than paying to park in Heanor. The initiative has therefore been introduced to encourage people to shop locally and operates in Wilmott Street, Ilkeston Road, Whysall Street East and Whysall Street West car parks.

To make use of the free 1-hour parking, drivers just need to press the green button on the Pay & Display machines, which will then issue a free ticket, to be displayed on their car’s dashboard.

Councillor Trevor Ainsworth, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, is pictured obtaining one of the first free tickets and commented: “It is with great pride that I am able to launch the free parking initiative, which I am confident will encourage more shoppers and visitors into Heanor Town Centre, to support the local traders and make the Town an even more attractive place to be.”
